Women's Basketball Receives Votes in Both National Polls
February 16, 2010 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. (2/16/10) - The Princeton women's basketball team is earning five votes in the latest AP Top 25 Poll and eight in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll released on Monday, Feb. 15 and Tuesday, Feb. 16.
This is the first week Princeton has received votes in the ESPN/USA Today poll, and fourth time this season to receive recognition from the AP.
The six votes is likely the most votes ever received by an Ivy League women's basketball team in the AP Poll that started in 1976-77. The same can be said about the eight votes received in the coaches' poll that begin in 1984-85.
The Tigers moved up to No. 4 from No. 5 in the Mid-Major Poll released by ESPN's Graham Hays on Monday, Feb. 15. Hays noted "The biggest conference tests for Princeton come in the first week of March, with trips to Harvard and Dartmouth on back-to-back nights as per Ivy League scheduling norms, but the Tigers keep taking care of business."
In addition, ESPN's Charlie Creme updated his bracketology on Tuesday, Feb. 16 and has slid Princeton up from a No. 13 seed to No. 12. He has selected Princeton to play No. 5 Georgia in the first round in Ames, Iowa as part of the Dayton Region.
