Rasheed Named Ivy League Rookie of the Year; Four Named All-Ivy

PRINCETON, N.J. (3/11/10) - Niveen Rasheed was the unanimous selection for Ivy League Rookie of the Year it was announced on Thursday, March 11 by the league office when it revealed the Ivy League women's basketball All-Ivy teams.
Along with being named to the All-Rookie Team, Rasheed was named First-Team All-Ivy along with sophomore Lauren Edwards. Junior Addie Micir and sophomore Devona Allgood earned Second-Team All-Ivy honors.
Princeton's five all-league honors are the most the Tigers have ever received.
Rasheed is just the second Tiger to be named the Rookie of the Year and the first to earn the honor along with being named to the first team. Meagan Cowher earned the award in 2005.
Rasheed was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week nine times this season and Player of the Week once. She led the team in scoring with 15.6 points per game and was in double figures in 23 of 28 games. Rasheed earned 10 double-doubles during the season and scored a career-high 27 points on two occasions. She also leads the team in rebounds, averaging 8.8 per game, and is the team leader in assists with 80 and steals with 63. Rasheed is second in the league in scoring, third in rebounding, third in field goal percentage, fifth in assists and second in steals.
An All-Rookie selection last year, Edwards is second in scoring on the team and fourth in the league with 13.4 points per game. She was named the Ivy League Player of the Week on March 1 and was named honor roll this past week. Edwards is second on the team in blocks with 30 and is third on the team in rebounds, averaging 4.3 boards per game, assists with 63 and steals with 38. In the league, Edwards ranks fourth in field goal percentage, third in three-point field goal percentage, and ninth in blocks.
Micir was a second-team selection last year as a sophomore. She is the team's top three-point and free-throw shooter. She has drained 66 threes, for 42.9 percent, and has hit 48 for 58 from the line for 82.8 percent. Micir was named the Ivy League Player of the Week twice this season and is fourth in the league in three point field goal percentage and sixth in scoring. Micir is averaging 12.6 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. She also contributes 61 assists, 21 steals and 10 blocks.
Earning All-Rookie honors last year, Allgood has led the Ivy League in field goal percentage all season. She is shooting at a rate of 57.4 percent (143-249), which ranks in the top-10 in the NCAA. Allgood has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week twice this season and has recorded nine double-doubles. She is averaging 10.9 points and 7.9 rebounds pr game. She leads the team in blocks with 38, while also chipping in 23 steals and assists, apiece. Allgood is 11th in the league in scoring, fourth in rebounding and fifth in blocks.
Princeton is 26-2 overall and recorded a perfect 14-0 record in the Ivy League. Earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, the Tigers will play in their first tournament game next weekend, March 20 or 21.
