SAN JOSE, Calif. -- San Jose State took both games of a doubleheader from the Princeton softball team by scores of 2-0 and 6-2 Sunday afternoon in California.
San Jose State 2, Princeton 0
Both Spartan (20-5) runners who scored reached base on walks, two of four that Princeton starter Jamie Lettire gave up along with eight hits on the day.
Princeton's (2-7) two hits came from freshman Alex Peyton, who singled in the second and seventh innings. The Tigers had a runner in scoring position each in the fifth and seventh innings but couldn't convert.
San Jose State 6, Princeton 2
Princeton answered a two-run first inning by San Jose State with a two-run double by Kelsey Quist, but San Jose State scored the last four runs in the win.
The Tigers got three of their four hits on the game off SJSU starter Elyssa Fox, but for the last six frames found Amanda Pridmore nearly unhittable. Rookie catcher Sarah Rounsifer had Princeton's only hit against Pridmore as the Spartans pulled ahead with a Brittany McConnell two-run home run in the fourth off Tiger starter Alex Peyton and tacked on two more runs in the sixth.
Princeton will have Monday off before a pair of games in Fresno, Calif., against Colorado State and Fresno State Tuesday.
