Women's Golf Takes Fourth at Winthrop
March 16, 2010 | Women's Golf
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Princeton's women's golf team finished fourth at the Winthrop Invitational Tuesday in the three-round, 12-team event.
The Tigers were second after the two rounds played Monday, but host Winthrop and eventual winner Xavier, which defeated the Division II program Belmont Abbey in a playoff, leapfrogged Princeton in the final round.
Freshman Anna Jang, who was in line for medalist honors after two rounds Monday, shot an 83 Tuesday to finish seventh at +20. Junior Rachel Blum, playing as an individual, trimmed shots from her total as the tournament went on, finishing with a 73 Tuesday to place second at +17, five shots behind winner Rachel Smith of Winthrop at +12. Smith was the only player to break 80 in all three rounds.
Behind Xavier, Belmont Abbey, Winthrop and Princeton were Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian, High Point, Marshall, South Carolina-Upstate, Wisconsin-Green Bay, St. Francis (Pa.) and Findlay (Ohio).
