Softball Splits Two at Pacific
March 18, 2010 | Softball
STOCKTON, Calif. -- Princeton pulled out a softball split at the University of the Pacific Wednesday afternoon, winning the first game 5-4 before the home team rebounded to win 10-0 in game two.
Princeton 5, Pacific 4
Pacific (10-13) got 11 hits against Princeton (3-10) rookie pitcher Alex Peyton, but the home team stranded eight on base as Princeton was able to come from behind.
Pacific led 4-0 after five innings, but Princeton was able to put together a rally in the sixth. A home run by Jamie Lettire, her fourth of the season and 33rd of her career, brought home two runs and Kelsey Quist followed with a solo shot to bring Princeton within 4-3.
Quist's home run was her third of the season and 29th of her career, putting her on the doorstep of becoming the fourth member of Princeton's 30-home-run club alongside Lettire, Kathryn Welch '09 (30) and Melissa Finley '05 (37).
Princeton was down to its final out in the seventh when Candace Button, Ellen Scott Nicole Ontiveros and Collette Abbott had four straight singles, allowing Princeton to pull ahead 5-4.
Peyton stayed in to nail it down in the seventh, allowing but stranding a two-out double to hold on for the win.
Pacific 10, Princeton 0
Pacific got to Lettire in game two, scoring nine runs in two innings off the senior before freshman Liza Kuhn gave up four hits and a run in Pacific's final two at bats.
Lettire had Princeton's lone hit, a fourth-inning single.
The Tigers will be away from competition Thursday before beginning a five-game event at Stanford Friday to conclude the spring trip.
