Captain's Corner: Diving Champion Daniel Dickerson
March 02, 2010 | Men's Swimming and Diving
A week before the 2009 Ivy League Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, Daniel Dickerson was an unknown diving commodity around the league. Then he went out and had the weekend of his life, and everything changed.
Dickerson had been a solid diver for Princeton ever since he first joined the team in the fall of 2006. There had been a number of impressive meets, but none as overwhelming as the one he had a year ago this weekend. When DeNunzio Pool served as host of the 2009 Ivy League Swimming and Diving Championships, Dickerson was viewed as one of many contenders for either title.
The one-meter championship was held on the first night of the competition. Dickerson had placed seventh in the same event during the 2008 meet, but his score of 317.85 to win by more than 27 points. His three-meter competition Saturday would be closer, but a brilliant final dive gave Dickerson a winning score of 342.15 points and clinched Ivy League Championships Diver of the Meet honors for Dickerson.
Now a senior tri-captain, Dickerson will lead the undefeated men's team this weekend for another Ivy League championship meet to be held in DeNunzio Pool. Check back with GoPrincetonTigers.com Wednesday for a full preview of the weekend.
