Men's Tennis Readies for Stony Brook Wednesday Night
March 02, 2010 | Men's Tennis
PRINCETON -- In the middle of a five-match homestand, the Princeton men's tennis team will host Stony Brook at 7 p.m. Wednesday on Jadwin Gym's indoor courts.
The Tigers are 2-4 after dropping a 5-2 decision to No. 44 Northwestern, while the Seawolves are 4-3, all against teams from New York, Connecticut or New Jersey, after ending a three-match series played on Yale's courts with a victory over Fairleigh Dickinson. The match begins a five-day, three-match stretch for Princeton, which will host Binghamton Saturday at 2 p.m. and Radford Sunday at 11 a.m., all on the Jadwin courts.
Princeton and Stony Brook have faced each other annually since 2001, with the Tigers winning the first eight meetings before the Seawolves squeaked out a 4-3 win a year ago in Jadwin. Four of the five Princeton players who won matches that day will be back this year, with Ryan Kim, Ilya Trubov, Yohei Shoji and Coleman Crutchfield contributing to doubles wins while Crutchfield was also a winner at fifth singles.
The Tigers have been competing with a young lineup of late. Against Northwestern, Princeton headed singles play with senior Charlie Brosens and five freshmen and sophomores behind him. In doubles, junior Alex Faust was the elder statesman, again with five freshmen and sophomores joining him.
The Stony Brook match, Princeton's first of March, is one of eight pre-Ivy contests remaining before the Tigers head to Penn on March 27.
