Virginia Defeats Princeton 14-7 in Women's Lacrosse

PRINCETON (3/20/10) - Sixth-ranked Virginia went on an 8-0 run to end the first half and start the second to build an insurmountable lead in a 14-7 win over the 13th-ranked Princeton women's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon on Powers Field at Princeton Stadium.
Princeton fell behind 2-0 to start the game but three straight goals, two from Barb Previ and one from Jaci Gassaway gave Princeton a 3-2 lead with 11:54 left in the opening half.
Virginia took over from there, scoring four goals to close out the first half and another four to start the second. The eight goals came from seven different scorers as only Brittany Lalkstein scored twice during the run, getting the final score of the first half with 13 second left and opening the second half with a goal 3:16 into the frame.
Down 10-3, Princeton scored three straight goals to cut the lead to four goals at 10-6 as Cassie Pyle, Kristin Morrison and Previ all found the back of the net, but the Cavaliers answered with another four goal run before Pyle closed the scoring with her second of the game.
Previ's three goals led the Tigers while Kalkstein had a game-high four goals for Virginia. Morrison added two assists in addition to her goal.
Lauren Brenner made 11 saves for Virginia to earn the win. Erin Tochihara had 10 saves in 45 minutes, while Kaitlyn Perrelle stopped four shots in 15 minutes.
Princeton dropped to 2-4 with the loss. The Tigers return to Ivy competition this Wednesday night when they visit Columbia.
