Softball Ends Spring Trip on Winning Note
March 21, 2010 | Softball
PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Jamie Lettire hit her sixth home run of the season and 35th of her career Sunday morning at Stanford's tournament as the Princeton softball team defeated Santa Clara 6-3 to end the 13-game trip to California on a winning note.
The home run moves Lettire within two of tying the program's career record of 37 held by Melissa Finley '05.
Rookie pitcher Liza Kuhn picked up the win in the circle and only had one rough inning when Santa Clara (5-13) pulled ahead 3-2 in the second.
Princeton (6-12) pulled ahead 2-0 in the first on an RBI-single by Collette Abbott, who later scored on an illegal pitch.
Two Santa Clara errors in the fifth inning helped Princeton score three runs to move ahead 5-3, one of which came home on a run-scoring single by Sarah Rounsifer. Princeton's final run was Lettire's round-tripper, which came in the sixth.
The Tigers will return home next weekend for twinbills against Rutgers and Lafayette at Class of 1895 Field beginning Saturday against the Scarlet Knights.
