April 01, 2010 | Softball
PRINCETON -- It'll be a big weekend at Class of 1895 Field, with the first four of 20 Ivy League games for the softball Tigers coming Friday and Saturday and expected to bring temperatures in the mid-70s with them.
Princeton will face Harvard Friday at 2 p.m. The Crimson enter the weekend at 6-14, breaking a 10-game skid with a twinbill sweep at Fairfield Sunday. Senior Melissa Schellberg is the team's top hitter at .321, and sophomore pitcher Rachel Brown carries a 1.89 ERA with her 5-4 record while throwing 64 of the team's 163 innings.
Dartmouth will come to Princeton for a pair at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The Big Green are 1-15 and will look to snap a 13-game skid following a win against Western Carolina Mar. 6. Senior Nikki Yee has the team's top batting average at .320, while sophomore Hillary Barker (1-6, 6.80) and freshman Evan Gray (0-6, 7.46) have combined to throw 85 of the team's 100 innings.
Princeton enters the weekend at 6-17 and will try to break a five-game losing streak since it came back from the spring trip to California. Sophomore Nicole Ontiveros has the team's highest batting average at .296, the highest of four averages on the team above .250. The Tigers lead the Ivy League in home runs, with 18, and 10 of those coming from seniors Jamie Lettire (six) and Kelsey Quist (four). In the circle, a pair of freshmen, Alex Peyton (3-3, 3.97) and Liza Kuhn (3-4, 4.20), and senior Jamie Lettire (0-10, 7.59) comprise the pitching staff.
The games will be Princeton's last at home until Apr. 24 when Penn comes to '95 Field to start a four-game series.
