Softball to Visit Columbia as Ivy South Play Begins
April 14, 2010 | Softball
PRINCETON -- With cross-divisional play behind them, the Princeton softball team will play on the road again this weekend, traveling to Columbia for a four-game Ivy South series Saturday and Sunday.
Each day's doubleheader will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Columbia's Baker Athletic Complex on the northern end of Manhattan.
Both teams trail Cornell and Penn in the Ivy South standings, and the Big Red and Quakers will square off this weekend in Philadelphia for control of the division race. After suffering a sweep against Harvard and Dartmouth two weekends ago at Class of 1895 Field, the Tigers picked up their first Ivy win at Brown last Saturday.
Columbia (9-22, 1-7 Ivy) is coming off a doubleheader split with Fairleigh Dickinson Tuesday. The Lions have two regulars batting above .300, with sophomore Kayla Lechler at .327 and senior Dani Pineda with four of the team's 10 home runs and a .306 average. Freshman Maureen O'Kane (3-10, 3.73) and junior Maggie Johnson (5-8, 5.01) have thrown 160 of the team's 200 innings.
Princeton's (7-25, 1-7) top hitter is freshman catcher Sarah Rounsifer at .296, while senior Jamie Lettire is hitting .290 with eight of the team's 22 home runs. Lettire's next home run will give her a program-record 38, a distinction she now shares with Melissa Finley '05 at 37. Rounsifer and Lettire have combined for 30 of the team's 95 RBIs, while senior Kelsey Quist (.259) holds the lead in that category with 24.
In the circle, freshman Liza Kuhn (3-8, 4.77) is the team's innings leader with 81, with Lettire (1-12, 7.39) tossing 78 innings and freshman Alex Peyton (3-5, 3.16) toeing the rubber for the remaining 51.
The Tigers have three home dates remaining, hosting Penn for four games April 24-25 before the regular-season ending home-and-home series with Cornell that will come to '95 Field on Sunday, May 2.
