Women's Lightweights Return Home To Take On Georgetown

While the Ivy League connection and the historical significance has made the Princeton-Radcliffe women's lightweight crew rivalry such a special one, there is no denying that the rivalry resuming Sunday is becoming a special one in itself.
In a rare home Sunday regatta on Lake Carnegie, both Princeton and Georgetown will compete for The Class of 2006 Cup. Princeton currently holds the trophy after edging the Hoyas by less than three seconds last season.
Princeton is currently ranked third in the country after losing a pair of tight races to No. 1 Wisconsin and No. 2 Stanford last weekend in Redwood Shores, Calif. Conditions were not ideal for the Tigers, who flew across the country and borrowed boats, but head coach Paul Rassam was very pleased with the effort and resilience shown by his squad. He echoed those thoughts in a recent TigerCast, which is available on GoPrincetonTigers.com.
Georgetown comes into the weekend ranked sixth overall, one spot ahead of an MIT program Princeton defeated in the season opener. The Hoyas raced No. 4 Radcliffe two weeks earlier and lost in a tight race by only 5.5 seconds. The 2V also fell to Radcliffe, while the Princeton 2V fell to its top-ranked opponents last weekend.
After its long road trip last weekend, the Tigers will not have to cross state lines another time this season. The Crimson will make its way to Lake Carnegie next weekend for the Class of 1999 Cup regatta Saturday morning. Both the EAWRC Championships (May 16) and the IRA Championships (June 3-5) will be held on Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.
