Top-Ranked Lightweights Retain Fosburgh Cup In Home Debut

It was a strong home debut for the reigning Ivy and national champion Princeton men's lightweight crew, which won its 16th straight regular season race Saturday morning with victories over both Georgetown and Columbia.
Princeton, which earned the No. 1 ranking in the first national poll earlier this week, won the first varsity race in 5:46.9, while the fifth-ranked Hoyas placed second in 5:50.7. Seventh-ranked Columbia finished third in 5:51.7. The Tigers are now 3-0 on the season, with wins over a trio of top-seven opponents.
Princeton won the top four races of the regatta. The second varsity won its event in 5:53.9, while Columbia finished second in 6:03.2. The Tiger 'A' 3V4+ won a tight battle against the Tiger 'B' with a winning time of 6:54.7, while the 'B' finished in 6:56.8.
The novice made a successful collegiate debut on Lake Carnegie, winning its race in 6:05.6. Georgetown placed second in 6:07.3, while Columbia took third in 6:17.9.
The Tiger lightweights will be off next weekend before returning on April 17 to take on Cornell and St. Joseph's for The Platt Cup.
