Women's Basketball Names Captains for 2010-11
April 07, 2010 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. (4/7/10) - The Princeton women's basketball team held its annual banquet on Wednesday, March 31 to celebrate its 2009-10 season.
Princeton finished the season with a 26-3 overall record and a perfect 14-0 mark in the Ivy League to reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
The team recognized the numerous records that were set this season, including: most wins in a season, winning 25 of those 26 games by double figures, most road victories, longest win streak, longest home win streak, fewest losses, best win percentage, most conference wins, most points, highest scoring average, first 4-0 sweep of Dartmouth and Harvard, having four players named All-Ivy, ranking sixth in the nation in scoring defense and fifth in scoring margin.
However, it wasn't those records that the team celebrated but the teamwork and attitude it took to get there in order to set those records.
Seniors Tani Brown and Cheryl Stevens each spoke after being introduced by assistant coaches Milena Flores and Melanie Moore. After words from both Coach Banghart and director of basketball operations Carrie Moore, the 2010 highlight video was shown. In addition, the traditional entertainment by the freshman class was presented in the form of a song.
The Herbert W. Hobler '44 Women's Basketball Award was awarded to both Brown
and Stevens. The award is presented annually to that player who through her
positive attitude, sportsmanship and consistent effort to improve her skills,
contributes most to the team.
Entering Princeton as two in a group of six, Brown and Stevens know that
they
are leaving the program in better shape than when they found it in 2006.
Knowing it wouldn't overnight, the duo's patience and perseverance paid
off in
2009-10.
At the conclusion of the banquet, head coach Courtney Banghart named Addie Micir and Krystal Hill captains for the 2010-11 season.
