Lapidus, Shiras Earn Induction to ITA Men's Collegiate Tennis HOF

The Tiger pair will bring the number of Princeton-connected Men's Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame members to nine. Among the first seven are John Van Ryn Jr. '28, former head coach John Conroy, Fred B. Alexander 1902, Winthrop Lenz '28, former coach David Benjamin, former coach Mercer Beasley, and George Church '15.
The ITA Men's Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame's first class was inducted in 1983, and this year's 10-member class will bring the total number of inductees to 230.
Lapidus was a three-year letterwinner and three-time All-America who earned a No. 1 national ranking in his junior season of 1980. Following his Princeton career, Lapidus earned a place on the 1980 U.S. Davis Cup team and enjoyed a professional career throughout the 1980s. Upon his retirement from professional tennis, Lapidus was an 18-season men's head coach at Duke before becoming the program's Director of Tennis in 2008.
Shiras was a four-year letterwinner and captain as a senior in 1981, earning All-America honors in 1979 and 1980 while advancing to the NCAA singles semifinals as a junior. Shiras played on U.S. Davis Cup teams in 1989 and 1991 during a 20-year professional career before transitioning to roles in tennis media during the past decade.
