Barnes Signs with Toronto Blue Jays
June 16, 2010 | Baseball
Barnes was a 35th-round draft pick of the Blue Jays in last week's Major League Baseball Draft. Barnes was one of three current Ivy Leaguers drafted along with Dartmouth's Robert Young and Yale's Trygg Larson-Danforth.
Barnes, a native of Manhasset, N.Y., was 1-3 in nine starts for the Tigers in 2010, pitching to a 5.14 ERA in 49 innings of work. Barnes struck out 40 batters on the season. For his career, he is 3-8 with a 5.02 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 95 innings pitched.
Barnes will likely team up with former Princeton teammate Jack Murphy in Auburn. Murphy was a 31st-round pick of the Blue Jays last season and played last season in Auburn. He has spent much of this season in extended Spring Training while making two appearances for Lansing in Class A ball.
Bobby Geren and Michael Fagan, a pair of incoming freshmen, were also selected in the draft this Spring.
