PRINCETON (6/25/10) - The 2010 Princeton men's water polo schedule was announced on Friday. The schedule opens with the annual Princeton Invitational and features six weekend tournaments and its eight CWPA Southern Division games.
The 2009 Tigers pointed their season to the 2009 NCAA Men's Water Polo Championships, which were hosted at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool. The 2010 championships will held at Cal, but the goal is the same, and it all starts with the Sept. 10-12 Princeton Invitational.
The Tigers will host the three-day event at DeNunzio, which will include the likes of Santa Clara, Cal Baptist, Harvard, George Washington and Iona. A week later, Princeton will travel to Harvard to compete in the ECAC Championships. The Tigers were runners-up to Navy a season ago at ECACs.
Princeton will travel south the final weekend of September for a league weekend at Johns Hopkins, Navy and George Washington, before traveling to California for the SoCal Tournament on Oct. 2 and 3 at UCLA.
The Tigers return to DeNunzio the following weekend for a single league game against Bucknell. A week later Princeton hosts Johns Hopkins and Navy and travels to Bucknell. Princeton completes the league slate on Oct. 23 against George Washington at home.
The next weekend marks the start of fall break and Princeton will host the Ivy Tournament at DeNunzio Pool. The event will feature the three varsity programs in the Ivy League-Princeton, Brown and Harvard-and the club teams of the other five Ivy League schools.
The Ivy tournament wraps up the regular season and a week later Princeton will travel to Navy for the Southern Championships. Two weeks later the Eastern Championships will take place at Bucknell and the NCAA Championships will be held the first weekend in December.
