Barnes, Geren and Fagan Selected in 2010 MLB Draft
June 09, 2010 | Baseball
Barnes, a native of Manhasset, N.Y., was 1-3 in nine starts for the Tigers in 2010, pitching to a 5.14 ERA in 49 innings of work. Barnes struck out 40 batters on the season. For his career, he is 3-8 with a 5.02 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 95 innings pitched.
He is the second straight Princeton player to be selected by Toronto in the draft, following Jack Murphy who was chosen in the 30th round of the 2009 draft. Murphy is currently in extended spring with the Blue Jays and will likely play Short Season A Ball in Auburn, N.Y.
Geren, a left-hand hitting corner infielder/catcher, from San Ramon Valley High School, will play for the Tigers beginning next season. His father is currently the manager of the Oakland A's. Fagan, a left-handed pitcher out of San Diego Jewish Academy, is also slated to play for the Tigers beginning in 2011.
Barnes becomes the 43rd Princetonian to be picked in the Major League Draft and the 19th player to play for Princeton Head Coach Scott Bradley to be selected in the draft. Last season, three Tigers-David Hale, Brad Gemberling and Murphy-were chosen in the draft.
