Jamie Holder Accepts Head Swimming Position At Georgetown
July 13, 2010 | Men's Swimming and Diving
One week after women's assistant swimming coach Phil Spiniello was named the head coach at Rutgers, another Big East program has chosen a Princeton coach to take over. Men's swimming and diving assistant coach Jamie Holder, who has helped guide Princeton to four Ivy League titles in the last five years, has been named the head coach at Georgetown.
"I want to sincerely thank Rob Orr for giving me the opportunity to learn from him and coach for my alma mater," Holder said. "It is a bittersweet feeling to be leaving Princeton. I am excited about the challenges that lay ahead of me, but will sincerely miss working at this special university. I will especially miss the extraordinary group of young men that I have been fortunate enough to coach and interact with in these past five years. I know they will do great things this season and for years to come."
Holder has coached nine NCAA qualifiers as well as eight All-Americans while serving as the assistant for veteran head coach Rob Orr. Last year, the Tigers went 7-0 in dual meets and won the 2010 Ivy League Championship, defeating second-place Harvard by more than 200 points. The team also broke into the national dual meet rankings.
At Princeton, Holder worked primarily with the sprint, middle distance and stroke groups developing workouts that included swimming, strength and aerobic conditioning. He also advised his student-athletes in technique and mental preparation for races. Holder worked extensively with both the men's and women's squads during practice and at meets. He served as the main recruiter on the staff, identifying athletes and assisting them throughout the recruiting process. His most recent recruiting class for the Tigers was among the top five in the nation according to CollegeSwimming.com.
Holder a two-time All-Ivy League swimmer for the Tigers, set a school record in the 400-meter freestyle and was named team captain as a senior.
