Wenzlau, Merlone Earn CWPA Southern Weekly Honors

Wenzlau had 14 points during Princeton season-opening Princeton Invitational, scoring five goals in Princeton's victories over both No. 13 Santa Clara and Harvard. He opened the Princeton Invitational with an assist in an 11-5 loss to 17th-ranked Cal Baptist, before posting five goals on seven shots with pairs of steals and ejections drawn in an 11-9 win over Santa Clara in a nationally-televised game on ESPNU.
Following the victory over Santa Clara, he tacked on two goals on three shots with two ejections drawn during a 9-5 victory over Fordham before wrapping up the weekend with five goals on seven shots with an assist and a steal in a 14-9 win over Harvard.
Merlone made 34 saves over four games to lead the Tigers to the three wins. He also added five assists and six steals. He has a high of 10 saves in the win over Santa Clara and added eight in the games against Cal Baptist, Fordham and Harvard. He also contributed three assists against Fordham and three steals versus Harvard in the Tigers' season-opening weekend.
Wenzlau, Merlone and their Princeton teammates return to action this weekend at ECAC Championships at Harvard. The event begins on Friday but Princeton's first game will take place on Saturday morning. The complete tournament schedule can be found by clicking here.
