September 27, 2010 | Football
Junior quarterback Tommy Wornham, who led Princeton on a wild come-from-behind 36-33 win against Lafayette Saturday night, was named the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by the Ivy League office.
Wornham completed 23 of 43 passes for 214 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, and he added a two-point conversion throw to Trey Peacock to force a 24-24 tie in the fourth quarter. He also ran nine times for 49 yards, including a five-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. His 12-yard run to start the second overtime session set up Jordan Culbreath's game-winning two-yard touchdown run.
Wornham did more than just put up big numbers; he made important plays in key spots. Down 8, he converted a 3rd-and-10 pass for 12 yards, a 3rd-and-10 rush for 12 yards, a 3rd-and-16 rush for 18 yards and a 2nd-and-10 pass for 12 yards. After Lafayette took a 27-24 lead with 5:22 remaining, Wornham engineered another important drive that included a 3rd-and-1 rush for two yards and a 3rd-and-8 pass for 12 yards.
Wornham currently leads the Ivy League and ranks second nationally in total yards with 336 per game; he also ranks second in the league and third nationally with 303 passing yards per game.
Senior linebacker Jon Olofsson (16 tackles) and junior kicker Patrick Jacob (3/3 FGs) were both named to the Ivy League Honor Roll.
Princeton will open its Ivy League season Saturday in New York City against Columbia. The game, which will be broadcast on WPRB 103.3 FM, GoPrincetonTigers.com and SIRIUS satellite radio channel 130, will begin at 12:30 p.m.
