PRINCETON - With their first win of the season in the books, the Princeton women's soccer team had plenty to feel good about after defeating Seton Hall 3-1 Sunday afternoon to open the third season on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium
Princeton picked up its 12th win in 18 games in the facility, moved to 1-1 on the season, and scored three goals in a game at the earliest point in the season since 2003.
"It was a good, hard-fought win," Princeton head coach Julie Shackford said. "We were a little disorganized at times, and again we saw things we need to work on."
Caitlin Blosser, a sophomore, assisted on each goal, all of which were fed to Tigers younger than the senior class. A freshman, Gabriella Guzman, put Princeton on the board with a close-range goal less than 10 minutes in, and the Tigers pulled away with two more in the second half.
The Tigers also got a look at two goaltenders, with senior Alyssa Pont playing the first half and sophomore Kristin Watson taking over after halftime.
Pont made four saves, but the Pirates found their equalizer in the 21st minute when Seton Hall's Kaitlyn Ritter got around her defender and then beat Pont to make it 1-1. Watson made three saves after the break.
Jen Hoy, a sophomore and Princeton's leading scorer a year ago, gave Princeton the lead nearly 40 minutes after the Tigers gave it back, using her speed to find some space in the box and knock home the game-winner. Inside of five minutes before the final horn, Sara Chehrehsa salted the game away with the last of a flurry of shots, putting a Blosser rebound in the net.
In what is always a packed pre-Ivy schedule, the Tigers will get back at it Friday at Hartford before returning home to face James Madison next Sunday. It is the second of three straight Friday-Sunday weekends for Princeton before the Ivy season begins on Sept. 25 at Yale.
