PRINCETON - Their first win in the books, the Princeton women's soccer team will look to keep the momentum going in another Friday-Sunday weekend at Hartford and home against James Madison.
Friday's game at Hartford, a 7 p.m. start, is the second half of a home-and-home series that began last year when Princeton won 3-0 on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium. Two of Princeton's goal scorers from that game return, with Jen Hoy and Rachel Saunders each providing a goal, and Marci Pasenello '10 also getting on the board.
Hoy and Saunders are just two of the principles from last year's match back for this season, with Hartford goalkeeper Lauren Brodeur logging most of her team's minutes again this season and Breeanna Robinson, who had five of the Hawks' six shots in last year's game, has scored three of Hartford's five goals this season.
Princeton holds a 3-1 lead in the all-time series, with Hartford winning an NCAA tournament first-round game in 1999 and the Tigers sweeping a two-game series in 2003 and 2004 before last year's win.
While Princeton aims to build on its 3-1 win last Sunday over Seton Hall, the Hawks will look to break a three-game skid to fall to 1-4 on the season.
The weekend is the second of three straight that will have the Tigers on the field on a Friday and Sunday with the Ivy League season beginning at the end of the month.
Sunday's game, a 12 p.m. start at Roberts Stadium against James Madison, will mark the teams' first meeting since 1996. The Dukes have won both contests in the series, in Princeton in 1993 and in Harrisonburg three years later. Only the two head coaches - Julie Shackford for Princeton and Dave Lombardo for James Madison, as well as Princeton assistant Ron Celestin - will have figured into both the series' most recent meeting as well as Sunday's match.
All four of James Madison's games on the way to a 3-1 record have been one-goal contests. Before facing Princeton, the Dukes will host Georgetown Friday night.
Diane Wszalek has played every minute in goal for JMU this season and is working on a 197-minute shutout streak after helping the Dukes to 1-0 wins over Villanova and Liberty. Four players have split the Dukes' four goals this season.
The James Madison game will start a stretch in which the Tigers have five of seven matches at home, with Long Island visiting next on Friday, Sept. 17.
