Track & Field to Host Princeton Relays

PRINCETON, N.J. (1/20/11) - The Princeton track and field teams will host the Princeton Relays on Saturday, Jan. 22. The meet will begin at 4 p.m., at Jadwin Gym.
Competing teams include: Georgian Court, Haverford, Iona, Kutztown, La Salle, Loyola, Millersville, Monmouth, Rider, Rutgers, St. Joseph's, St. Peter's, College of St. Rose, Stony Brook and TCNJ.
Last year the women's squad won six events, including the weight throw, high jump, pole vault, mile, 1000-meter run and the distance medley relay. Junior Emma Ruggiero won the weight throw reaching 16.19 meters. Classmate KC Wade won the women's high jump at 1.65 meters, as the only competitor to get over 1.60 meters. The Tigers had three competitors in the pole vault and the trio placed first, third and fourth. Freshman Tory Worthen won the event at 3.85 meters. Freshman Lauren Zumbach had the best time out of 31 runners in the mile at 5:14.82. The Tigers swept the 1000-meter run. Sophomore Alex Banfich took top honors with a time of 2:57.08. The Tigers also won the distance medley relay. Reilly Kiernan, Lauren Lewis, Katherine Sirico and Alex Banfich ran an 11:52.44 in the event.
The men's team won seven events, including: long jump, pole vault, high jump, mile, 60-meter dash, 800 and 1000-meter runs. Highlighting the Relays were two Tigers meeting the NCAA Provisional Standards in their respective events. Junior Dion Lehman reached NCAA provisional standards in the long jump. Lehman reached 7.38 meters, and beat out the next finisher by 0.33 meters. Senior Justin Frick reached NCAA provisional standards in the high jump with a jump of 2.15 meters.The Tigers went 1-2-3 in the pole vault with sophomore David Slovenski winning the event at 5.00. Three of the six qualifiers for the finals of the 60-meter dash were Tigers, with sophomore Ivan Charbonneau winning the event at 6.94. Junior Kyle Soloff had the best time in the mile out of 33 runners, finishing in 4:09.01. Freshman Russell Dinkins was first in the 800 at 1:53.37. The Tigers captured the top four places in 1000-meter dash, led by freshman Nathan Mathabane was first 2:26.49.
