Men's Soccer Loses Ivy Opener at Dartmouth 4-1
October 01, 2011 | Men's Soccer
HANOVER, N.H. (10/1/11) - The Princeton men's soccer team couldn't recover from a first half four-goal deficit and lost its Ivy League opener 4-1 on Saturday, Oct. 1 at Burnham Field.
It was the same scenario Princeton has found itself many times this season. The Tigers outshot the Big Green 12-6 but ended up on the losing end of the game. Princeton is 0-4-1 when outshooting its opponent this season.
Dartmouth keeper Noah Cohen was a major factor making seven saves on eight shots.
Dartmouth scored two goals within one minute of each other in the 10th and 11th minute. Colin Heffron tallied an unassisted goal with a long shot and then set up the next goal for Kevin Dzierzawski one minute later.
Lucky Mkosana would pad the Big Green's lead in the 16th minute when he picked up an Aaron Gaide feed and put it away.
Mkosana tallied his second of the afternoon in the 37th minute. Princeton had a great chance to score when David Dubow hit the cross bar at 36:11. The ball bounced back into the box and Princeton tried to get some more chances but one long clear by a Big Green defender led to Dartmouth taking a 4-0 lead. Mkosana picked up the long ball and drove up the left flank and beat Princeton keeper Max Gallin one-on-one.
Sophomore Patrick O'Neil would get the Tigers on the scoreboard in the 44th minute.
Princeton would take a 5-1 shot differential in the second half but Cohen would make four saves to prevent the Tigers from getting any closer.
Gallin would finish with two saves for Princeton, which also won the corner kick battle 4-0.
Princeton falls to 1-7-1 overall while Dartmouth moves to 3-3-2 on the season.
Princeton travels upstate to play Seton Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
