PRINCETON, N.J. (10/10/11) - Princeton head women's basketball coach Courtney Banghart discusses the upcoming season in an interview with GoPrincetonTigers.tv.
Princeton returns four starters and lost just two letterwinners from a 2010-11 squad that went 24-5. Princeton won its second straight Ivy League title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers were 13-0 at home, a program record and are in the middle of a 22-game consecutive home winning streak, an all-time record.
Back on the court are senior captains and first-team All-Ivy selections Devona Allgood and Lauren Edwards. Allgood is the top returning scorer, averaging 11.9 points per game with the best field goal percentage in the league. She led the Ivy League in rebounding with 7.2 boards per game. Edwards averaged 11.4 points per game and had 58 assists, 37 steals and 19 blocks. The Defensive Ivy League Player of the Year Lauren Polansky returns as point guard. She led the team in steals with 52 and was second in assists with 82. Also back in the line-up is the 2009-10 Ivy League Rookie of the Year Niveen Rasheed, who missed the Ivy season last year because of an injury.
The Tigers will play 28 games, 14 of which will be against non-conference opponents from nine conferences, including four teams that were in the NCAA Tournament. A total of 13 games will be played at home in Jadwin Gym. The Ivy League schedule kicks off on Saturday, Jan. 7 when Princeton takes on Penn at 7 p.m.Princeton opens the 2011-12 season at home hosting St. Joseph's on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.
