Dibilio Earns Second Ivy Rookie Of The Week Honor After Record Performance
October 10, 2011 | Football
For the second time in the first four weeks of the season, Princeton running back Chuck Dibilio has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week. He took the honor after a Princeton record-setting performance at Hampton.
Dibilio rushed 21 times for 147 yards and a touchdown in the 28-23 loss at Hampton Saturday. The 147-yard effort breaks the 12-year record from freshman rushing yards in a single game. The previous mark was set by Cameron Atkinson '03, who rushed for 122 yards in a 1999 victory against Fordham.
"Chuck Dibilio continues to improve each week," head coach Bob Surace said. "He had another good game against an outstanding opponent."
Dibilio earned the season's first Rookie of the Week honor after rushing for 86 yards and catching a touchdown pass in the season opener against Lehigh. He currently ranks fifth in the Ivy League in rushing yards (80.8 per game), and his per-carry average of 6.7 yards is second best among any of the Top 10 Ivy League rushers.
Dibilio is only the third Princeton football player to win Rookie of the Week honors twice in one season. The other two were special teams standouts, placekicker Taylor Northrop (2001) and punter Colin McDonough (2003).
Princeton also placed three players on the Ivy League Honor Roll: senior safety Chance Cross (6 tkls, 1 INT, 1 FF, 1 FR), senior defensive lineman Mike Catapano (6 tkls, 1.5 TFL, 1 blocked kick, drew the holding call for Hampton's second safety) and Patrick Jacob (four field goals).
