D'Amato Wins Playoff to Claim R.I. Tournament
October 16, 2011 | Men's Golf
Becoming the first member of the Princeton men's golf team in more than four years to win an individual title, Tiger junior Bernie D'Amato claimed medalist honors Sunday at The Classic at Shelter Harbor in Charlestown, R.I.
To win the individual title, D'Amato defeated last spring's Ivy League individual champion, Dartmouth's Peter Williamson, on the first playoff hole after each man finished the two-round event at one over par. Williamson shot a 72 Saturday and 71 Sunday while D'Amato had a 71 Saturday and 72 Sunday.
John Sawin '07, who claimed the Princeton Invitational title on April 15, 2007, was the last Tiger to win medalist honors in a tournament.
D'Amato was the only Tiger to have a higher score Sunday than in the first round as Princeton rose from an eighth-place tie after Saturday's first round to finish fourth. Dartmouth won the event at +26 by six shots over Connecticut (+32) with Columbia (+35) and Princeton (+38) behind.
The event closed Princeton's fall schedule after four tournaments and two tri-meet events. Princeton's complete results for the Shelter Harbor event are below, and all teams' results can be found at the PDF link on this page.
