Men's Golf Takes Runner-Up at Yale
October 02, 2011 | Men's Golf
In a field with six of the eight Ivy League men's golf programs, Princeton finished just five shots out of first place Sunday afternoon to wrap the McDonald Cup at The Course at Yale.
Three Tigers shared top honors among teammates, as Evan Harmeling, Bernie D'Amato and Greg Jarmas finished at +3 for the tournament to tie for ninth overall. Jarmas's Sunday score of 67 was among the lowest rounds of the tournament and was the lowest of the day after Columbia's Brendan Doyle and Dartmouth's Peter Williamson shot 67 and 65, respectively, Saturday.
Chase Woodsum completed Princeton's scoring four at 6-over, and senior Rob Owen, a newcomer to the team, chopped 10 shots off his score from Saturday to Sunday to shoot a 70 and come in at +10 for the tournament.
Yale had two of the top five finishers on its home course to pace the team to the win, as Sam Bernstein finished at -3 and Brad Kushner parred the weekend. Bernstein was one of three players to shoot under par for the tournament along with medalist Williamson (-4) and Rhode Island's Branden Chicorka (-1).
Princeton's second-to-last tournament of the fall season will come next Saturday and Sunday at the Big Five Classic at Plymouth Country Club outside Philadelphia.
