Live Stats
For the second straight weekend, the Princeton women's soccer team will be chasing three valuable Ivy League standings points on the road, this time in Providence, R.I., when the Tigers take on Brown. At 0-2 after a pair of tough losses against Yale and Dartmouth, Princeton faces a key game against the Bears if the Tigers are to get back into the Ivy League race.
Harvard and Columbia co-lead the Ivy at 2-0, while four other teams are at 1-1. None of the eight Ivy games so far this season has ended in a tie. A year ago, the Ivy League champion had 14 standings points, and 15 are still on the table for Princeton.
In the most recent meeting against Brown, current senior Kalie Bartholomew scored a 42nd-minute goal and classmate Kristin Watson completed the shutout as the Tigers won 1-0. A Princeton win this time would square the all-time series at 15-15-3, putting it level for the first time since 1983. Princeton went winless against Brown from 1983-94 but has turned it around during the Julie Shackford era, going 11-3-2 against the Bears while winning every meeting from 1998-2004.
Ten players have scored Brown's 13 goals this season, led by three from sophomore Kiersten Berg. As it was a year ago, Brown has split time between its two goalkeepers, Amber Bledsoe and MC Barrett, with Bledsone getting all 10 starts and Barrett edging Bledsoe in total minutes, 481-450. The goals-against averages for the two are comparable, with Barrett at 0.75 and Bledsoe at 0.80, as are the save percentages, .857 for Barrett and .852 for Bledsoe.
Princeton has also split time between its goalkeepers this season, as senior Kristin Watson made her first appearance of the season by playing all 90 minutes against Dartmouth after missing the first eight games due to injury. Prior to that, junior Claire Pinciaro had every start but the one freshman Darcy Hargadon made against Lafayette. Offensively, juniors Caitlin Blosser and Jen Hoy continue to lead the team with two goals apiece.
After the Brown game, Princeton will have three of its next four at home, with Francis Marion (Oct. 10), Columbia (Oct. 15) and Utah Valley (Oct. 18) coming to Myslik Field and Roberts Stadium while the Tigers will make the short trip to Lehigh on Oct. 12.
