PRINCETON (11/18/11) - A pair of Princeton men's water polo freshmen were honored on Friday night at the CWPA Eastern Championship Hall of Fame Banquet as All-Southern honorees. Kayj Shannon was named to the first team while Drew Hoffenberg received second-team recognition.
Shannon was a first-team choice following a season in which he scored 33 goals and scored at a .371 shooting percentage. Shannon added seven assists, 12 steals and drew 21 ejections during the season.
Hoffenberg started 21 of 28 games entering the weekend and has 35 goals scored on 78 shots, good for a .449 shooting percentage. He has a team-high 31 assists and has added 26 steals and 33 ejections drawn.
The last Princeton freshman to garner all-league honors was John Stover, who was a second-team selection in 2002. Shannon becomes the third Princeton player to be named All-South as a freshman joining Chris Gratian (1997) and Kevin Foster (1999).
Princeton won its opening round game at Easterns earlier today by a 14-3 score over Iona. The Tigers will play St. Francis on Saturday afternoon in the Eastern semifinals.
