Women's Fencing Completes Penn State Meet

Fifteen members of the Princeton women's fencing team opened their season Saturday with the annual Penn State Garret Open individual competition.
The Princeton fencers competed with those from Harvard, Northwestern, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn, Penn State, Temple and Yale.
Junior Eliza Stone was the top finisher overall with a bronze in the saber, while classmate Hannah Safford placed fourth in the epee and freshman Sharon Gao took fifth in the foil.
All of Princeton's results are below. The Tiger men's team will compete Sunday in the Garret Open.
Meanwhile, two Princeton fencers were competing at the Memorial de Martinengo international junior event in Bratislava, Slovakia. In a women's epee field of 179 fencers, freshman Katharine Holmes placed 11th overall and second among Americans. Sophomore Hyun-Kyung Yuh had to withdraw from competition in the women's foil due to injury.
