Kelley Finishes First in Epee at Penn State
November 20, 2011 | Men's Fencing, Women's Fencing
Edward Kelley won gold in the epee at the Penn State Garret Open as one of three Princeton men's fencers to medal in the individually scored event.
Kelley became the first Princeton fencer to win gold at Penn State since 2004, when Soren Thompson '05 did so, also in the epee.
Foilist Alexander Mills and saberist Philip Dershwitz each won bronze as five of the 14 Tigers in the competition had top-10 finishes. Princeton has competed in the season-opening event annually since 2005, this time facing fencers from Cornell, George Mason, Harvard, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn, Penn State and Yale.
The Tigers will return to Penn State for their first day of dual meets on Dec. 3.
