Weber Recognized as Top Greenwich Water Polo Player

GREENWICH, Conn. (11/26/11) -- Princeton freshman Matt Weber received the inaugural award of the Tim Nesvig Memorial Trophy this Saturday at the Greenwich Aquatics Hall of Fame Luncheon ceremony. This honor recognized Weber as the outstanding male Greenwich Water Polo player for 2011.
The Tim Nesvig Memorial Trophy memorializes a great athlete, student, and man whose life was cut short due to a terrible disease. Tim Nesvig, who graduated from Bucknell in 1996, captained both the Greenwich High School and Bucknell University varsity teams. Today he still among one of Bucknell's top ten scorers. However in the fall of 2003, Tim was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. He was confident that as a lifelong athlete he could beat the disease. Unfortunately the aggressive form of his disease failed to respond to his treatment, and he passed away on February 8, 2005.
In memory of Tim, his family, friends, and business colleagues began the Tim Nesvig Lymphoma Fellowship and Research Fund. Since his death, the Fellowship has raised over $8 million for cancer research. Significant advances in lymphoma treatment have been made as a result of the Fellowship.
