Men's Swimming/Diving Builds On Lead At 2011 Big Al Open With Six More Wins

The Princeton men's swimming and diving team won six more events during the second day of the Big Al Open, which included victories by reigning Ivy League individual champions Jon Christensen and Colin Cordes.
The Tigers will head into Sunday's final day with 924 points, more than twice as many as other team in the field. Columbia is currently second with 453 points, while Brown is third with 351 points.
The Princeton men opened their second finals session with a 1-2 finish in the 200 medley relay. The quartet of junior Kaspar Raigla, senior Jon Christensen, freshman Michael Strand and freshman Harrison Wagner won the event in 1:27.85, the only time that was below 1:31 on the night.
The Tiger quartet of senior Charlie Wang, junior Brian Barrett and seniors Michael Monovoukas and Matthew LaMonaca placed second in 1:31.24.
Princeton went 1-2-3 in the 400 IM, with a trio of underclassmen topping the field. Tiger sophomore Daniel Hasler won the event in an impressive time of 3:55.79, while classmate Eric Materniak took second in 3:59.32. Freshman Oliver Bennett took third in 4:00.54.
Princeton placed four in the final of the 100 fly, with Strand grabbing the highest finish with a fourth-best time of 49.69. Seniors Wang and Monovoukas placed fifth and sixth in times of 49.87 and 49,94, while sophomore Ian Rea took seventh in 50.83.
Princeton had four more in the top six of the 200 free, with Ivy League champion Colin Cordes winning the event in 1:37.99. Junior Will Lawley took third in 1:39.21, while freshman Michael Hauss placed fourth in 1:39.54. Sophomore Paul Nolle, who dominated in the 500 Friday night, took sixth in 1:41.05.
Christensen followed fellow tri-captain Cordes with a win in the 100 breast. He took the event in 53.86, while Hasler placed second in 56.53. Materniak added a fourth-place finish in 57.87.
Strand won a Princeton-filled 100 back final with a time of 48.49. He was the first of four Tigers in the top five of the final, with Raigla placing second in 49.88. Sophomore Adam Lebovitz took fourth in 51.31, while Maher placed fifth in 51.45.
Junior Stevie Vines took third in the 3-meter diving final with 318.15 points, while sophomore Mark O'Connell took sixth with 287.15 points. Junior Chris Kelly placed seventh with 257.90 points.
The quartet of Christensen, Hauss, Lawley and Cordes ended the night with a winning time of 6:38.63 in the 800 free relay.
The final day of the Big Al Open will begin with preliminaries Sunday at 10 a.m. The last finals session will begin at 5 p.m.
