PRINCETON (2/24/11) - The Princeton women's basketball team will take its last Ivy League road swing of the season when it travels to Cornell on Friday, Feb. 25 and Columbia on Saturday, Feb. 26. Both games tip off at 7 p.m.
The Cornell game will be webstreamed for a cost of $7.95, while subscribers to GoPrincetonTigers.tv will be able to watch the Columbia game as part of the subscription. Fans can also listen to the game on the internet with Princeton's Derek Jones calling the action and follow along with live stats.
Princeton sports a 19-4 overall record and is in first place in the Ivy League standings with an 8-1 record. The Tigers rebounded from a loss at Harvard by winnning their next five games. The Tigers average 69.3 points per game, a +16.6 scoring margin over their opponents. Princeton shoots 44.2 percent from the field, 40.9 percent from long range and 69.6 percent from the stripe. Three Tigers are in double digits in scoring led by senior Addie Micir. Micir scores 12.5 points per game and is the team's best three-point and free-throw shooter, hitting 64 three's and hitting 84 percent of her free shots. Micir also leads the team in assists with 72 and is second on the team in steals with 31 and third in blocks with 15. Junior Devona Allgood, who leads the league in field-goal percentage, adds 12.4 points per game and a team-best 6.7 rebounds per game. Classmate Lauren Edwards adds 11.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Allgood and Edwards are the top two blockers on the squad with 28 and 15, respectively. Sophomore point guard Lauren Polansky leads the team in steals with 46 and is second in assists with 69, while adding 2.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
Princeton is 41-20 in the all-time series with Cornell, which dates back to 1974. The Tigers also have a winning record in Ithaca, at 16-13. Princeton has won the last five games in the series including a 65-43 victory at home on Feb. 12.
Cornell is 5-19 on the season with all five wins coming at home at Newman Arena. The Big Red is 2-8 in the Ivy League, winning games against Columbia and Dartmouth, to sit in eighth place in the standings. Cornell averages 51.5 points per game, shooting .356 from the floor, .281 from long range and .662 from the line. Sophomore forward Clare Fitzpatrick is the team's leading scorer, averaging 11.3 points per game. She is the team leader in steals with 30 and is second on the team in blocks with 14 and in rebounds with 5.8 per game. The team leader on the glass is freshman guard Allyson DiMago with 5.8 boards per game while adding 8.0 points per game. Freshmen Stephanie Long and Shelby Lyman add 7.4 and 5.3 points per game, respectively. Lyman leads the team in assists with 47 and is second in steals with 26, while sophomore forward Kristina Danielak has a team-high 18 blocks.
Princeton owns a 37-16 record in the all-time series with Columbia, dating back to 1979 when Columbia's women's college was known as Barnard. Princeton is 17-9 when playing in the big city. The Tigers have won the last five meetings including a 57-35 game at home on Feb. 11.
Columbia is 5-19 overall and 4-6 in the Ivy League, losing its last four games, to sit fifth in the league standings. Saturday's game will be Senior Night for Kathleen Barry and Lauren Dwyer, the team's top two leading scorers. Barry averages 10.5 points per game and leads the team in rebounds with 7.0 per game. She is also the team leader in steals with 49 and adds 20 blocks. Dwyer, who scored her 1,000th career point at Princeton two weeks ago, adds 9.7 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game. She leads the team in blocks with 29. Freshman guard Brianna Orlich chips in 9.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. She has a team-high 54 assists and is second on the team in steals with 34. The Lions average 55.7 points per game while shooting 33.3 percent from the field, 27.3 percent from behind the arc and 67.3 percent from the free-throw line.
