Very little in the world has been consistent since 1990, but one thing that has stood for more than two decades is Princeton's dominance in DeNunzio Pool. The men have never lost a home dual meet since the building opened in 1990, but they will face one of their toughest tests during that stretch when they host the 9-1 Navy Midshipmen Saturday at 2 p.m.
Princeton is coming off a split last weekend at the annual H-Y-P meet, held at Yale. While junior Jon Christensen was his typical dynamic self with a trio of wins, it was Harvard that impressed the most and swam away with two wins. The Tigers moved to 5-1 on the season with a 238-118 win over Yale during the weekend.
In its last competition in DeNunzio Pool, both junior Colin Cordes and sophomore Stevie Vines were multiple-event winners in a 156-85 victory over Dartmouth. Another winner that day was senior Brett Lullo, who will be one of six seniors honored during this, Princeton's final home meet of the season. He joins Pat Biggs, Geoffrey Faux, Peter Fellowes, Colin Hanna and Tristan Hastings.
DeNunzio Pool has proven to be a memorable home for this class of Princeton men, who won both the 2009 and 2010 Ivy League championships at their home pool. They also won two Big Al Opens, including one this season, and the 2010 H-Y-P meet.
Formerly an EISL rival of Princeton, Navy now competes in the Patriot League and looks like a strong contender for the league title. Following an early-season loss to Virginia, Navy has run the table, including an impressive win over Yale. The Midshipmen, who will compete against Columbia Friday night, nearly defeated Princeton in the last meeting between the two programs. Wins by current Tigers Faux and Matt Jacobson helped Princeton to a 155.5-144.5 win over Navy.
Last year's meet was cancelled due to a winter storm.
