Women's Track & Field Finishes Fifth at Sykes & Sabock

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (2/5/11) - The Princeton women's track & field team finished fifth at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup this weekend, Feb. 4-5 held at Penn State.
Sophomore Tory Worthen placed second in the pole vault with a season-best mark of 3.97 meters. Freshman Samantha Anderson placed sixth, clearing 3.60.
Princeton got nine points in the 3000 with sophomore Abby Hewitt taking third place at 10:02.65. Freshman Marissa Cummings was sixth with a time of 10:14.40.
In the 600, sophomore Melissa Zajdel was fifth at 1:33.70.
Junior Eileen Moran qualified for the finals of 60-meter dash, running a 7.70 in the prelims. She bettered her time in the finals at 7.65. Moran ran 24.68 in the 200 to place fifth out of 40 sprinters. Danielle Glaeser recorded a new personal best in the event with a time of 25.72.
Senior Bianca Mathabane qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles when she clocked in at 8.98 in the prelims. She ran an 8.91 in the final of eight hurdlers.
Sophomore Erin Guty was eighth in the long jump reaching 5.35 meters to give her team a point, reaching that mark it on her final jump.
Princeton's 4x400 relay finished in fourth place. Joie Hand, Glaeser, Moran and Zajdel ran a 3:48.87.
The distance medley relay competed for the first time and finished third. Molly Higgins, Jasmine Blocker, Kacie O'Neil and Theresa Devine finished the relay in 11:51.11.
Princeton had 47 points to take fifth. Penn State won its home meet with 154 points, followed by Cornell with 130.5. East Carolina was fourth out of 12 teams with 67.
Senior Sarah Cummings competed at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at The Armory. She finished second in the 3000 at 9:24.86.
Princeton will get a taste for Heps when it competes at HYP in New Haven, Conn., next Saturday, Feb. 12.
