Men's Swimming/Diving Looks For Momentum Swing In Friday's Ivy Finale
February 09, 2011 | Men's Swimming and Diving
After two challenging weekends, including the Tigers' first home loss in more than two decades, the Princeton men's swimming and diving will try to complete its 2010-11 regular season on a high note with a Friday afternoon meet at Columbia's Uris Pool.
The Tigers, who were just outside the Top 25 in the latest national polls, are 5-2 on the season, including a 5-1 mark in the Ivy League. After starting the season 4-0, Princeton split the H-Y-P meet (238-115 over Yale, 189-164 loss to Harvard) before last weekend's 167-133 loss to No. 24 Navy. Princeton still had a number of strong performances recently, including several by junior Jon Christensen. A multiple-event winner in both the H-Y-P meet and the Navy meet, Christensen has won three individual titles at the Ivy League Championships in his career.
Last year, Princeton won 15 of 16 events at DeNunzio Pool en route to a 174-117 victory over Columbia. Among the individual winners for Princeton in the meet were Colin Hanna (1000), Will Lawley (200 free), Kaspar Raigla (100 back) and Adlai Pappy (200 fly).
Columbia comes into the weekend with a 5-3 record, with its trio of losses coming to Navy, Harvard and Cornell. Lion senior Adam Powell, one of the top swimmers in the Ivy League, swept both the 50 and 100 free against the Midshipmen last weekend. Freshman Hyun Lee added an impressive victory in the 500 against a Navy team deep in its distance corps.
Following Friday's regular season finale, Princeton will be off until March 3-5, when it heads to Harvard's Blodgett Pool to compete in the 2011 Ivy League Championships.
