PRINCETON (2/10/11) - The Princeton women's basketball team returns home for the first time in over a month when it hosts Columbia and Cornell this weekend at Jadwin Gym. The Tigers take on the Lions on Friday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m., and the Big Red on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m.
Both games will be webstreamed on GoPrincetonTigers.tv for subscribers. Fans can also listen to the game on the internet with Princeton's Derek Jones calling the action and follow along with live stats.
Princeton is 15-4 on the season and sits in second place in the Ivy League with a 4-1 mark. The Tigers fell at Harvard 73-67 on Friday ending a 22-game Ivy League conference win streak before rebounding with a 75-50 win at Dartmouth. Senior Addie Micir leads the team in scoring with 13.3 points per game and is the hottest three-point and free-throw shooter on the team. She has missed just five of her 45 free throws this season, ranking her first in the league, while she has drained 56 three's the most in the league. Micir ranks second on the team in assists with 55 and averages 4.1 rebounds per game. Leading the team on the glass is junior Devona Allgood with 6.7 per game. She adds 11.8 points per game and has a team-high 27 blocks. Classmate Lauren Edwards chips in 11.4 points per game, 4.9 rebounds per game. She adds 41 assists, 23 steals and 16 blocks. Sophomore Lauren Polansky leads the squad in assists with 56 and steals with 36, while adding 2.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.Princeton owns a 36-16 edge in the all-time series with Columbia that dates back to when the women's school was known as Barnard College. The Tigers have won the last four meetings and are 19-7 when playing the Lions at Jadwin.
After starting the season 0-13, Columbia is on a tear winning its last three games and falling to Harvard by just one point. The squad is 5-15 overall and 4-2 in league play and split its series with travel partner Cornell. The team averages 58.2 points per game and holds squads to 66.6 points. Columbia shoots 34.4 percent from the field, 29.1 percent from long range and 67.8 percent from the line. Kathleen Barry leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 11.2 and 7.5, respectively, while leading the team in steals with 35. Lauren Dwyer adds 10.2 points per game and has a team-best 24 blocks and 5.4 rebounds per game. Brianna Orlich and Melissa Shafter both have 40+ assists and are the team's top free-throw shooters. Collectively, the pair average 8.6 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.
Princeton has a 40-20 advantage in the all-time series with Cornell. The Tigers have won the last four meetings and have allowed Cornell just seven wins at Jadwin in 31 games.
Cornell heads into the weekend looking for its first road win of the season. The team is 5-15 overall and 2-4 in the league with wins over Columbia and Dartmouth. Cornell has been at home for the last five games but has lost the last three. Three of Cornell's top five scorers are freshmen, with rookie Allyson DiMagno leading the class with 8.4 points and a team-best 5.7 rebounds per game. She sits second on the team in scoring behind Clare Fitzpatrick who has 11.6 points, 5.4 rebounds per game and a team-high 28 steals. Stephanie Long adds 7.6 points per game and leads the team in assists with 63, while Kristina Danielek scores 5.4 points per game and had a team-best 17 blocks. The Big Red average 52.1 points per game, a -11.0 scoring margin. They shoot 35.9 percent from the field, 27.9 percent from behind the arc and 65.2 percent from the charity stripe.
