Former Tiger All-America Kent DeMond Wins Major Cliff Diving Competition
March 10, 2011 | Men's Swimming and Diving
Former Princeton All-America diver Kent DeMond has taken his passion to a new, and significantly higher, level. DeMond recently won the Acapulco Cliff Diving World Championships, which took place on the cliffs of La Quebrada.
You can see the final of DeMond's winning dives here.
DeMond, who won the competition on his 28th birthday, performed three dives at heights close to 70 feet, and won with a score of 306.4 points. The lone American competitor edged out Columbia's Orlando Duque (291.6 points) and Russia's Artem Silchenko (278.8 points).
The competition is a prelude to the 2011 Red Bull Cliff Diving Series, which opens next weekend in Rapa Nui, Chile. Though not a popular American sport, the series will hold a competition in Boston this August.
