San Jose State scored three goals in the opening quarter and basically held that three-goal margin through three quarters as the teams traded goals through the rest of the first half and the third quarter. The Spartans led 6-3 entering the final quarter before the Tiger offense began to pick up the pace.
Both teams combined for eight goals in the final eight minutes as Princeton scored five times and San Jose State three times, Princeton drew even in the game and was tied at eight as the seconds clicked off the clock, but San Jose State took advantage of their last possession and scored the game-winning goal with just 2.2 seconds left on the game clock.
Cari Levine and Katie Rigler each had two goals in the win. Both scored man-up goals and Rigler added a 5-meter goal. Rigler also added an assist, two steals and drew four ejections. Princeton was 4 for 8 with the man advantage in the game and scored on its lone 5-meter chance. San Jose State scored on four of nine chances and scored two 5-meter goals.
Kristen Ward made a season-high 13 saves in the loss as Princeton fell to 8-6 on the season. Princeton was 2-2 at the Aztec Invitational this weekend, topping 18th- ranked UC San Diego and Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday, and falling to fourth-ranked Hawaii and 10th-ranked San Jose State on Sunday. Princeton will remain in California for the rest of the Spring Break week. The Tigers play at Concordia on Wednesday.
