March 05, 2011 | Women's Water Polo
The game was a back-and-forth affair that saw four lead changes over the course of the afternoon. Princeton led by two twice in the first half and also trailed by two in the final quarter before drawing even in the closing minutes only to have Indiana pull it out in the end.
Brittany Zwirner and Katie Rigler scored in the first half to give Princeton a 2-0 lead but three straight Hoosier goals made it 3-2 Indiana early in the second quarter. Princeton responded with the next three goals as Zwirner scored on an ejection early in the period and Cari Levine and Molly McBee added scored in the final two minutes to hand the Tigers a 5-3 halftime lead.
Just as Princeton outscored Indiana by two goals in the second quarter, Indiana outscored Princeton by two in the third to knot the game up at 6-6 entering the final eight minutes. Indiana scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter as Wyckoff scored twice 25 seconds apart in the second minute of the period.
Princeton answered through, scoring twice in the span of a minute to even the game entering the final minute. Rigler made it 8-7 when she scored on an ejection and Levine drew the game even with 1:11 remaining.
As play went to the other end of the pool, Princeton couldn't get the stop it needed as Wyckoff scored her third goal of the period to put the Hoosiers back on top with 46 seconds remaining. Princeton had one more chance in the offensive zone but the Hoosiers forced a turnover and killed the remaining clock to get the win.
Kristen Ward made seven saves in the loss for Princeton while Cassie Wyckoff made six saves in the win. Princeton was 3 of 11 with the man advantage while Indiana was 3 for 8 and converted on a 5-meter chance from Kelsey Campbell for its first goal of the game.
