March 06, 2011 | Baseball
BATON ROUGE, La. (3/5/11) - The Princeton baseball team fell 7-2 late on Saturday night to seventh-ranked LSU at Alex Box Stadium. The game was delayed nearly two hours because of rain.
LSU starting pitcher Kevin Gausman took the mound after an hour and 55-minute rain delay and turned in a quality start, limiting Princeton to a run on three hits in six innings. Princeton would add a single run in the seventh after loading the bases in both the sixth and seventh.
The host Tigers collected all seven of their runs in the first four innings off of Princeton freshman starting pitcher Mike Ford. Tyler Hanover drove in two runs for LSU and Raph Rhymes was the only LSU player with multiple hits (two) and runs (three).
Princeton had four hits in the loss as John Mishu, Ford, Matt Connor and Alec Keller each singled in the game. Mishu came around to score both Princeton runs, scoring on Ford's single in the fourth and on a wild pitch in the seventh.
Ford took the loss for Princeton allowing seven runs on seven hits in the four innings. Kevin Link pitched four no-hit innings of relief for the Tigers.
The teams meet Sunday at 12 noon local time in Baton Rouge in the series finale.
