Men's Golf Ties for Third at Princeton Invitational
April 10, 2011 | Men's Golf
PRINCETON -- Posting its best finish since 2008 at its annual home invitational, the Princeton men's golf team tied for third at the Princeton Invitational Sunday afternoon at Springdale Golf Club.
Two of Princeton's highest finishers were not among the team's scoring five, though the Tigers still would have placed third had junior Evan Harmeling's 1-under 212 and freshman Greg Jarmas's 5-over 218 been among Princeton's scorers. Freshman Taylor Peck and sophomore Bernie D'Amato tied as the top scoring Tigers at 5-over, while senior Eric Salazar was next among Tigers at +13, junior Chase Lovett-Woodsum was fourth on the team at +16, and junior Patrick Wasserman rounded out the Princeton five at +18.
Yale won its second straight Princeton Invitational title at 4-under as a team, six shots in front of Penn. Yale's Sam Bernstein edged out individual defending champion and teammate Tom McCarthy for medalist honors at -5, two shots in front of McCarthy as the Yale pair were two of five players under par on the weekend. Penn's Max Marisco had the lowest round of the weekend, shooting a 7-under 64 Sunday.
Princeton placed ninth a year ago in its home tournament and seventh in 2009 after tying for second in 2008.
The Tigers will head to Purchase, N.Y. for the Century Intercollegiate next Saturday and Sunday in the team's final event before the Ivy League Championship later this month.
