Alex Peyton Named Ivy Softball Pitcher of the Week
April 12, 2011 | Softball
Princeton sophomore Alex Peyton helped contribute to two Ivy League wins for the Tiger softball team last weekend and has been named the Ivy League Pitcher of the Week for her efforts.
It is the first weekly honor of Peyton's career and Princeton's first Pitcher of the Week award since April 8, 2008, when Kristen Schaus '09 was selected. Sophomore Kelsey VandeBergh was named the Ivy League Player of the Week on March 22 in Princeton's only other Ivy weekly honor this season.
Between her appearances in three Ivy League games over the weekend, Peyton had a 1.17 ERA, striking out 15 with just four walks in 18 innings pitched. In the first game at Harvard Friday, Peyton gave up just two hits in four innings of relief work before returning for a complete-game effort in the nightcap as Princeton handed Harvard its first Ivy League loss of the season. Peyton returned the next day at Dartmouth, giving up four hits in a complete-game shutout as the Tigers beat the Big Green 1-0 to save a split.
Princeton stands 13-17 overall and 4-4 in Ivy League play, one game behind Cornell in the Ivy South standings with 12 to play and four head-to-head meetings between the teams at the end of the month. The Tigers will visit Penn this weekend for four games Saturday and Sunday to open Ivy South divisional play.
