April 20, 2011 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. (4/20/11) - The Princeton women's basketball team handed out its annual team award at the 2011 team banquet this past March.
Senior co-captains Addie Micir and Krystal Hill were both named recipients of The Herbert W. Hobler '44 Women's Basketball Award. The award is presented annually to that player who through her positive attitude, sportsmanship and consistent effort to improve her skills, contributes most to the team.
"My assistant coach Milena Flores said it best when she said at our banquet, 'anyone who spends any time with Coach Banghart quickly learns how important leadership is to her and as a result, to this Princeton program' ," head coach Courtney Banghart said. "It's no secret that I feel very strongly that leadership is the most important intangible to any championship team. Our captains Addie and Krystal selflessly and consistently led this team to the goals they set at the beginning of the year. They willed us day by day and they found ways to win. They genuinely cared about the people around them and the program they represent, and by doing so, they were our leaders. My staff and I couldn't be prouder to give them this prestigious The Herbert W. Hobler '44 Women's Basketball Award, nor more thankful for all they meant to this program."
Micir was selected unanimously as the Ivy League Player of the Year, the first player in Princeton history to receive the honor. A four-year starter she is a ranks ninth in all-time scoring at Princeton with 1,188 points. In addition she is the best free throw shooter in Princeton history, sinking 81.8 percent of her shots, and ranks second all-time in three-point field goal percentage at 41.5 percent.
Hill finished her career playing 112 games, more than any other player in program history. She ranks right behind Allgood as the second-best free-throw shooter in Princeton program history, hitting 81.1 percent of her shots from the line.
The 2010-11 squad posted a 24-5 overall record and earned votes in both national polls throughout the season. The Tigers went 13-1 in the Ivy League to win their second straight Ivy League Championship, earning the program's second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.
