No. 14 Dartmouth Eludes No. 15 Princeton 15-10 in Women's Lax

HANOVER, N.H. (4/23/11) - The No. 15-ranked Princeton women's lacrosse team outscored No. 14 Dartmouth in the second half but it wasn't enough to overcome an early deficit as the Big Green walked away with a 15-10 win at Scully-Fahey Field.
Penn has clinched the right to the host the Ivy League Tournament with its win over Brown today the Quakers are 6-1, their lone loss to the Tigers. Dartmouth and Harvard are tied in second place with 5-1 records but will face each other next Saturday with the winner earning a share of the crown with Penn and the second seed in the tournament. Princeton will automatically get the No. 4 seed as it has lost to both Dartmouth and Harvard, and is now 4-2 in league play.
The Big Green (9-3) took a 10-3 halftime lead that the Tigers (7-6) had to fight through in the second. Princeton had seven goals to Dartmouth's five in the second session but it wasn't enough. Dartmouth had a 30-19 edge in shots, including a 20-6 differential in the first half. The Big Green had a 15-12 edge in draw controls and while both teams had six caused turnovers.
Freshman Sarah Lloyd led the Tigers with a four-point game with two goals and two assists. Senior Lizzy Drumm and junior Cassie Pyle both had hat tricks. Junior defender Lindsey deButts had four ground balls, while Drumm had four draw controls. In goal senior Erin Tochihara made seven saves.
Sarah Parks had a four-point game with three goals and one assist to pace the Big Green offense. Kirsten Goldberg had a hat trick while Sarah Plumb, Hana Bowers and Greta Meyer all had two goals and one assist apiece. Kristen Giovanniello made seven saves in the cage.
Dartmouth quickly jumped out to a 4-0 lead less than five minutes into the first half, getting two of those goals on free-position attempts. The Big Green would convert 4 of 4 of their eight-meter chances in the game.
Drumm put Princeton on the scoreboard at 21:38 with a free position goal, but Dartmouth wasn't done, scoring the next four goals to take an 8-1 lead with six minutes left in the half.
Lloyd scored her ninth of the season, an unassisted tally, but Dartmouth's Goldberg scored two unanswered to give her team a 10-2 lead with 21 seconds left. Junior Barb Previ would set up Drumm for the final goal of the half.
The second half opened with both team's getting a free-position goal.
deButts grabbed her first goal of the year and Pyle followed up as the Tigers made it an 11-6 game 6:30 into the half.
The teams traded goals for the next 10 minutes, as Dartmouth would maintain its five-goal lead with a little more than 13 minutes left.
Dartmouth pushed its lead to 15-8 with goals from Bowers and Parks.
Pyle would tally two goals in a span of 1:17 to get Princeton within five, 15-10, but the Tigers could get any more past Giovanniello in the final 3:30 as she would make two stops.
Princeton will host Columbia on Wednesday, April 27 at 7 p.m., at Princeton Stadium.
