Matija Pecotic Named Ivy Men's Tennis Player of the Year
April 28, 2011 | Men's Tennis
PRINCETON -- With an undefeated Ivy League record atop Princeton's singles ladder, sophomore Matija Pecotic has been named the Ivy League Player of the Year for men's tennis.
Pecotic was a unanimous choice among the league's coaches to become the fourth Princeton player to be named the Ivy League Player of the Year since the award began in 1987. Pecotic joins Reed Cordish '96 (1996), Judson Williams '02 (2002) and Peter Capkovic '09 (2008). The honor comes a year after Pecotic was a second-team All-Ivy League singles pick in 2010.
Freshman Augie Bloom earned second-team All-Ivy League singles honors, compiling a 6-1 record while playing six of the seven Ivy League matches at third singles after winning the opener at Penn at fourth singles.
As a team, Princeton finished 13-7 overall and 6-1 in the Ivy League, coming up one point short of eventual undefeated league champion Cornell. The 6-1 record was Princeton's best in the 13 seasons of eight-team Ivy League men's tennis after the Eastern Intercollegiate Tennis Association saw Army and Navy head to the Patriot League following 1998.
