Baseball Team Draws Texas in Austin Regional Opener This Friday

PRINCETON (5/30/11) - The Princeton baseball team will open the 2011 NCAA Baseball Tournament this Friday when it meets the tournament's seventh national seed at UFCU-Disch-Falk Field in Austin, Texas. Princeton was the first team to qualify for the tournament when it captured the Ivy League title on May 8.
Joining Texas and Princeton at the Austin Regional will be Kent State and Texas State. Kent State won the MAC Championship while Texas State captured the Southland Conference. Texas received an at-large berth to the tournament. Princeton will take on the host Longhorns at 6:30 p.m. central time on Friday night. The opening game of the regional between Kent State and Texas State will begin at 1 p.m. central time.
Princeton last appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2006 when it played at Arkansas and faced Oklahoma State and the host-Razorbacks, dropping a pair of close games. Princeton last won an NCAA tournament game in 2004 when it topped Virginia in the opening game of a regional.
Princeton has never faced any of the three teams at the Regional. The Tigers last played in the state of Texas in 2007 when the played a three-game set at Houston. Princeton also played in an NCAA Regional at Houston in 2000 and met the Cougars and Texas Tech.During the regular season, Princeton faced three NCAA tournament teams, posting a record of 2-4 in the six games against North Carolina, Navy and Seton Hall. Princeton went 1-3 in a three-game series at Navy, lost a single game at UNC, the tournament's third seed, and won a single game at Seton Hall, which won the Big East Tournament this weekend.
